More tales of runaway successes

Tales of £1,000 from the Flora Women’s Run in the last issue of Reaching Out were well underestimated thanks to the efforts of mum, Marie Moriarty, her sister Cinty and her friend Anita Holloway, who raised a remarkable £1,310 from the event.

Marie reports that much of this was due to her son Kieran’s football team, St Josephs 88 FC, who aided family and friends in seeking sponsorship.

“It was a great event to take part in and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves,” said Marie, whose daughter, Danielle has CdLS. “We will have no hesitation in doing it again next year now we know what it is like.

Thumbs-up

“I couldn’t believe that among the 20,000 runners we would actually meet up with others doing it for CdLS – a big thumbs-up to Ginny and co for holding up the big CdLS banner. It was unbelievable to see that standing out against thousands of people supporting around the circuit.”

Another runner was Catrina Valiandis from Edmonton who raised a superb £583… and says there is more to come.

The Foundation will be encouraging as many women as possible to take part in next year’s event at the start of September. The Foundation will supply special running shirts and sponsor forms to all runners.

Registration

If you are a woman and want to run for the Foundation – it really is fun – please drop a line to Ginny Penney at 21 Great Leylands, Harlow, Essex CM18 6HR giving the names of runners and £12 for each registration and we will register for you.

• Kieran Moriarty’s involvement in the Under 8s St Joseph’s team has paid further dividends for CdLS.

Team manager, Jim Cahillane, encouraged the club to send the Foundation the £150 raised during the club’s charity fun day.
