Four young adults with
CdLS took part in another Social Awareness activity day during the summer visiting
the Great Maze at the Blake House Craft Centre in North Essex
The four along with
helpers and psychologists from Birmingham University had the chance to weave
their way through miles of maize & sunny sunflower pathways They also had a
chance to try glass painting and had a game of crazy golf.
The day was a great
success with the young people beginning to relate well to each other despite a
few difficulties.
Lisa Collis, who had
set up the study as part of her PhD work at Birmingham sponsored by the Foundation,
said she was pleased the event in the south had been so successful but was
disappointed that events in the midlands and the north had had to be cancelled
through lack of support.
Foundation General
Manager Jacquie Griffin said, “It was a shame because we now know more about
how hard it is to get young adults with CdLS to accept social invitations and
this programme has helped a number of youngsters in the south.
“I hope next time we
will get families prepared to help us get this programme working elsewhere in
the country”
The
young people with CdLS get to try their hand at glass painting, exploring the
maze ... or just enjoying the thrill of retail therapy.
